Sometimes you start off with a clear destination in sight while other times you head out on a journey only to arrive at an unforeseen destination.

1999 was a heady time in the short life of the internet. It seemed anyone with a 28K modem and even a simple idea was able to start a new business and send shivers up the spines of the most powerfully entrenched business incumbents.

As time and reality quickly proved, most of these ideas were more “bubble” hype excitement than real business ideas and the hotly burning flames of this era fizzled out as quickly as they made their headlines.

But this intoxicating period of time did get a few of us excited, maybe jealous, enough that we made the decision to leave our cushy corporate jobs and head into the wild west frontier of the internet to grab our own piece of the gold rush.

Since we were all from the “corporate world” versus the “fresh out of college with zero business experience”, we did fail to have the vision to create businesses with phantom sales, zero profits, millions of dollars of other peoples money and the obligatory foosball tables and sock puppet mascots.

Instead we thought we should actually invest our own money, sell a product and / or service at a profit, and stick with those outdated business concepts that were being rapidly rewritten by the new generation of business visionaries.

So yes… it’s true that we didn’t hit the grand slam home run and gain the same name recognition as Amazon and Google but along the way, we’ve created, operated, and sold multiple businesses that have actually turned real profits and provided real jobs.

And here’s where the path became the destination. Because as we were building and running these businesses using the available software tools, it was quickly apparent that we needed more functionality than anything “out of the box” was providing.   So we designed and built the software tools we needed to succeed!   Membership System - This was our 1st software product we built to sell our video tutorials, automatically create passwords, and manage our customers.   Instant Answer Ticket System - Massive customer volumes creates massive sales revenue but it also creates massive support loads. We needed a way to grow multiple businesses at the same time but not have our support load grow as fast as our businesses.   Counting on email sure wasn’t working. In fact, it actually made our

support load worse because too many emails were getting blocked by spam filters so we were doing extra work and still ending up with irate customers.

Live Chat - Even though we could have used an existing solution, there was nothing suited to run multiple websites from one screen, using one operator, and making it appear as though we were running independent businesses.

Affiliate System - The 1Shoppingcart Affiliate system payment method was so painful it inspired us to create our own affiliate program (yes, we used those guys way back then).

1 Click Up Sell - Virtually unheard of when we invented the 1 click up sell system, the 1 click up sell has now become so important as to be a virtual “base requirement” of any modern shopping cart.

Of course, we’ve since pushed the envelope here so even though others now have their own version of the 1 click up sell, there’s still nobody on the market that can compare with our latest Advanced Up Sell system. …and here’s where a funny thing happened that shaped our future.

Once we had this library of software products created, other people started to notice and wondered how they could buy these to use in their own business.
